There have been a couple of incidences recently of club members arriving on the airfield and driving onto a live runway.
This has happened where the members have turned up after the first arrival and have not been aware that the other members are using the No2 flying site.
Although the wind direction and flying circuit of the VGS gliders should indicate which runway they are using , it is possible to have a lapse of concentration and go the wrong way.
To try to negate any further incidences of this nature , the following procedure will now be adopted :
Whoever is first on the site and collects the comms radio will also pick up a small ( 10") direction cone which will be stored with the comms radios at 22SAR.
Make sure that you ask if there are any movements we need to know about and which runway , if any , is active.
When entering the airfield , the cone will be placed on the grass triangle immediately ahead of the main gate and placed in such a manner as to indicate to new arrivals which way to turn. Please use the stake provided to secure it.
The cone has right and left arrows marked in colours of 'red for right' and 'blue for left'.
When packing up , the cone should be removed and stored with the comms radio ready for the next time it is needed.
If this procedure is followed we should avoid any further problems.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
WOULD ALL MEMBERS FLYING AT CHIVENOR PLEASE ENSURE THAT THEY DO A
PROPER RADIO COMMS CHECK WITH 'CHIVENOR RADIO' BEFORE FLYING
COMMENCES.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CALL - "MODEL FLYERS TO CHIVENOR RADIO - RADIO
CHECK PLEASE"
THERE HAS RECENTLY BEEN A PROBLEM WHERE OPS WERE TRYING TO CONTACT
FLYERS ON THE FIELD AND IT WAS LATER FOUND THAT THERE WAS A FAULT WITH
THE FLYERS RADIO. THIS PROBLEM CAN BE MINIMISED BY DOING PROPER CHECKS
IN THE OPS ROOM AND AGAIN AT THE FIELD.
THE ONUS IS ON THE MODEL FLYERS TO DO THESE CHECKS.
